Alcohol

For men the recommended safe intake of alcohol is 3-4 Units per day.

Drinking large amounts of alcohol is defined by the World Health Organisation as drinking more than six standard drinks for men.

One unit:
  • A glass of wine, or
  • A measure of spirit, or
  • A regular glass of beer or larger.
  • Contains approximately 10g of pure alcohol
  • Is high in calories but not vitamins

A single can of strong beer is around 4 units of alcohol. It takes a man’s liver about one hour to process one drink. Read more about how alcohol affects different parts of your body.
